1. The free tier is now expected. With 84% of apps offering one, paying to simply try a companion app is increasingly unnecessary — the leaders let you test before you spend.

2. Annual billing is the real discount. Across the index, monthly plans routinely cost 2–3× the annual equivalent for identical features. The advertised “from” price almost always assumes an annual commitment.

3. Watch the credit systems. A growing number of apps layer per-action token or credit costs on top of the subscription, especially for image and video generation — the headline price is no longer the full price.
